Chicago native Vaughn “DJ V-Dub” Woods boasts a career steeped in the city’s rich musical heritage. His journey began in 1984, a spark of passion ignited by the turntables. What started as a casual exploration blossomed into a dedicated pursuit by 1988. Recognizing his calling, DJ V-Dub set his sights on a career in music.
As hip-hop’s influence surged in the 1990s, DJ V-Dub seamlessly adapted. He carved his niche in the college circuit, his infectious energy captivating audiences. This success propelled him into the heart of Chicago’s vibrant nightlife scene, where he solidified his reputation as a DJ of distinction.
His talent didn’t go unnoticed. In 2001, DJ V-Dub received a pivotal opportunity – a mix show on Chicago’s legendary iHeartRadio station, WGCI. This groundbreaking show became the city’s first to capture the raw essence of the mixtape experience on the airwaves, known to mix up-and-coming artists, freestyles, and the hottest new singles. For the next 23 years, DJ V-Dub held down the airwaves, keeping Chicago pulsating with his expertly curated soundscapes.
Beyond his own platform, DJ V-Dub is a champion for Chicago’s musical landscape. He established “The Associates,” a DJ collective dedicated to fostering and promoting the city’s burgeoning talent. His unwavering dedication earned him the title “The Mixtape Bully,” a testament to his relentless support for the art form he loves. As a testament to his influence, he joined the ranks of the prestigious Violator All-Star DJs and in 2018, was sought after to start the Chicago chapter of the Coalition DJ’s; dedicated to breaking local artist in nightclubs and venues.
March 2024 marked a new chapter. DJ V-Dub brought his unparalleled expertise to V103, igniting the airwaves with a vibrant mix of throwback hits from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. With each set, DJ V-Dub continues to captivate audiences, a testament to his enduring passion and dedication to the city’s musical legacy.
